Leona is a native New Yorker who now lives in New Jersey. She has spent the majority of her professional career in the media field, and has also been actively engaged in the arts in recent decades. She works in acrylics and mixed media. Her lyrical abstract paintings have been featured in juried shows and galleries, and Leona’s artworks are also featured in private and corporate collections. She is an award-winning artist, and an exhibiting member of the Guild of Creative Art in Shrewsbury, NJ. She is a member of the Art Alliance of Monmouth County, NJ, the Art Society of Monmouth County, NJ and the Atlantic Highlands Arts Council, NJ. She has studied at The Art Students League of New York and at the Parsons School of Design in New York City. Leona has been painting for most of her life.
"I create the kind of paintings I like to live with. I occupy myself less with filling the canvas with objects, focusing instead on color, texture and line work to convey mood and emotion. I enjoy the versatility of acrylic paint. It affords the spontaneity and layering effect I seek. As a classically trained painter, my colors and tones are largely blended from primary colors. Occasionally I incorporate collage and stenciling into the work, allowing a fuller exploration with the compositions. As someone who has divided her life between city and shore, my inspirations are generally drawn from those experiences."
